Abstract

Art and science explore nature and human in distinct ways, yet science without doubt acts as the engine of development in our society. New technologies guided ways of evolution while merge and cooperate with the existed system and views. The most popular trend of multidisciplinary in academic field even includes art.

Apparel design as an application branch of art, connects preceding upstream industry and research field and the following psychological needs and business interests. To free mind of designers and to proceed their ideas in technology exploration is very important to development of new knowledge and new combination in industry. However, such movement is facing great resistance.

This article involves two projects, which are ‘Studies and application of wearable electronics’ and ‘Exploration of chitosan fibres with design approach’. Both the two studies received supports from companies and the Hong Kong government. The projects end well with rich intellectual property, and the associating product is launching to market soon. The report includes procedures in material selection, equipment remolding, data analytics, prototype construction and performance testing, and shows how design approach can benefit the process. The studies are also examples of development and extended application of new fibres.

Bio

李鸝博士現為香港理工大學紡織及製衣學系副教授,博士生導師,項目召集人。李鸝博士活躍在紡織工業界,於內地和香港從事紡織品設計多年。李鸝博士主要研究領域是功能性紡織品與服裝的設計和開發,涵蓋服裝設計,技術設計和紡織品基礎研究。李博士的研究成果深受學界和業界的一致認可,已發表50余篇研究论文在科學引文索引,它們大多是世界領先期刊,包括The Design Journal,Textile Research Journal和Advance Materials。在過去的8年科研生涯中,她獲得多個由香港政府科技署資助的學術項目,并成功與多個本地及國際品牌服飾公司在多項科研課題合作;擁有4個美國專利和7個中國專利,且成果已成功授權于商业用途,其成果獲得多個國際獎項,包括第44屆日内瓦國際發明金獎和Arts of Fashion Foundation Competition全場總冠軍。同時,李鸝博士也是多個國際期刊審稿人。目前,她指导9名在读博士生。
