Abstract

Life sciences are experiencing a profound revolution characterized by the convergence of the physical sciences, information sciences, and engineering with the life sciences. This revolution will also impact a broad range of disciplines, bringing opportunities and challenges to them. As the most complex phenomena in nature, living systems provide unlimited possibilities to explore and vast space for imagination. Searching for physics of life has been a dream for generations of physicists, and the endeavor has shaped modern biology and will continue to shape the future science and technology.

生命科学与物质科学、信息、工程等定量学科的交叉不仅正在使生命科学发生一场深刻的革命,而且也必将给这些传统定量学科带来巨大的机会和挑战。物理是一门探索万物之“理”的科学。而大自然中的生命现象给喜欢用物理的精神来思维的人提供了极为丰富的素材和巨大的想象空间。报告人将和大家一起分享他在这方面的一些体会、感想和工作。

Bio

Dr. Tang is a PKU Chair Professor of Physics and Systems Biology. He had his undergraduate training at the University of Science and Technology of China, and received a Ph.D. degree in Physics from the University of Chicago. In his early career, he worked on problems in statistical physics, dynamical and complex systems. His current research interest is at the interface between physics and biology. Specifically, he works on systems biology problems in the areas such as cell growth and division; function, topology and dynamics in biological networks; cell fate transformation and determination. He was a Professor at the University of California San Francisco before returning to China full-time in 2011. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society, the founding director of the interdisciplinary Center for Quantitative Biology at Peking University and the founding Co-Editor-in-Chief of the journal Quantitative Biology.

汤超本科阶段在中国科技大学近代力学系学习。经李政道先生的CUSPEA PROGRAM 获美国芝加哥大学物理学博士学位。在统计物理,凝聚态物理,非线性科学,复杂系统等领域做了一些工作。近些年来致力于用物理学的思想及方法探索研究生物问题,并于2005年加盟世界著名生物医学研究机构―加州大学旧金山分校。他在2001年帮助创立北京大学理论生物学中心,2011年入选国家“千人计划”。现为北京大学讲席教授,定量生物学中心(原理论生物学中心)主任。研究方向主要在物理和生命科学的交叉方面,通过理论、计算与定量实验相结合的研究手段,寻找生物系统中的普适性原理和规律。
